June 2023 update from the Parish Council

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback following our May 2023 update. We’re glad to hear it helped keep you informed on some key activities within the Parish Council. We’ll be at the Upper Rissington Summer Fete and are keen to listen to your ideas and suggestions on what facilities and improvements we can make across the village. Pop along to our stall to say hello. We’ll have a couple of pull-up banners so you can spot us.

New Councillors

You might have seen earlier in the week our announcement that we’ve welcomed two new Councillors, Clive Summerfield and Richard Watson. We have three seats available still and would be happy to chat with anyone interested in joining. We’ll be at the Summer Fete, or you can email the Parish Clerk clerk@upperrissington-pc.gov.uk or the Chair dan.holden@upperrissington-pc.gov.uk for more information.

Annual Parish Meeting

Since our last update, we held the Annual Parish Meeting, where representatives from the different community groups gave an update on all the various projects and activities they’ve been doing throughout the year. From the Social Committee and Rotary in the Rissingtons to the Church in the Rissingtons and The Breeze, it was clear it’s been another busy year!

You can find a directory on this website of all the different groups and societies within the village, and if you spot any missing, send us a message via the website.

We’ve scheduled the 2024 Annual Parish Meeting on Monday, 18 March 2024, at 7 pm at the Upper Rissington Village Hall. This might seem a little far away, but we wanted to give plenty of notice to all the community groups and residents to attend.

Village Hall improvements

We approved at our June meeting the installation of new audio-visual equipment to go in the main hall. This includes speakers, a projector, a screen, and a hearing aid loop system. This was in response to feedback from hirers of the Village Hall, and we hope to increase the opportunities for new and existing users.

Anyone can make a booking to use the Village Hall. Whether for a one-off event, a regular group meeting or a sports club, you can view availability and book online via our website.

Allotment works

We’re pleased to say that improvement works to the allotments have now been completed. This has seen the installation of an inner fence, water troughs, improved footpaths and an area by the gates for turning and unloading. We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind drivers visiting the allotments to be aware of pedestrians using the track and surrounding areas.

We only have a couple of plots left when publishing this update, so send us a message if you’re interested in becoming an allotment plot holder. Full details are also on our website.

Grass cutting

We’ve received much feedback about grass-cutting, which is understandable given the recent weather. We’d ask for your support when contractors are on-site to report any concerns directly to the Parish Council. We’ve had several instances where residents, with goodwill, intended, have stopped grass and hedge cutting from taking place by directly speaking to the contractors. In the majority of cases, we then also have residents contact us to ask why the grass-cutting hasn’t happened. This causes increased work and delays as we need to rearrange dates with contractors with busy schedules.

We’ll be working with the support of residents who have offered to help to create a consolidated plan for when we take on the full responsibility of the land within the village. We’d encourage anyone interested to sign up for the news alerts on our website so you can receive more information on how to get involved.

Behind the scenes

One of the big topics from our recent Annual meeting was around Health and Safety, ensuring we have all the appropriate policies and processes in place as we work towards transferring the Public Open Spaces. With a significant number of facilities due to come under our responsibility, such as play parks, we’re working with a Health and Safety company to ensure we’re completing the right risk assessments and putting any measures needed before opening into place.
